Crime stories involving children of the judiciary are, alas, not uncommon, and, as a rule, they are not about justice. And the greater this injustice, the more the public buzzes with indignation. How the confrontation between society and another judge’s son will end, the editors of the online publication “Kompromat Group“

Semi-maniacal process

The judge-family crime drama began 14 years ago. In 2008, volunteers searching for children found a missing 10-year-old girl, Katya, in the Kingissep Romanovka Park. The child was dead. Suspicion even then fell on the strange Andrey Orelkin. Even in those years, the press wrote that local residents more than once caught him engaging in suspicious entertainment – his uncle looked at playing children through binoculars. But the detention ended quickly, despite the fact that the intelligence of the operatives generally did not fail. The detainee was cleared away by his very respected mother, an ex-judge, Nina Orelkina. The “son” was released. But, as you know, there is no statute of limitations for the murders of children.

One St. Petersburg specialist, Alexey Rodin, known to the public because he specializes in catching maniacs, got hooked on this story and decided to again watch the guy who likes to spy on children with binoculars. After some time, the operative already had a court order to search. The event, as the press later wrote, was stunning. Not only was child porn found on a friend’s phone, but he himself confessed to murder 14 years ago. It would seem that justice is about to prevail and the killer will get what he deserves. But no. A week ago, a jury in the Leningrad Regional Court returned a not guilty verdict to the 58-year-old Andrey Orelkin. The mother of the deceased girl and the state prosecution will appeal the verdict. The public also rebelled.

In comments on social networks, indignant residents of the Leningrad region and St. Petersburg write that not everything is clean here and, of course, the judges “didn’t abandon their own” and, in general, “how is this possible?” Where is the actual “justice”? The answer to this question will be given by an appeal, and if it does not help, the Supreme Court will put an end to the case.

But, unfortunately, this is not the only egregious case with the offspring of judges that occurred on the banks of the Neva.

In 2020, in St. Petersburg, the investigation dropped the criminal case against the son of a judge who shot a friend. Andrey Sayapinson of a judge of the Third Court of Cassation of General Jurisdiction Vitaly Sayapina, shot and killed his bosom friend at home. The schoolchildren decided to watch TV and came to Andrei’s house in a whole group, bought cola and chips, and, as they say, nothing foreshadowed. Unfortunately, the judge did not hide his IZH-18 and IZH-81 guns. The young owner of the apartment decided to show off to his friends and took one of them.

Then the fatal shot rang out. The teenager pulled out the body of his dead friend and disappeared. The security forces found him in the forest, of course, horrified by what he had done. However, despite the criminal case initiated on the fact murders, no one had to answer for what they did. The case against the 14-year-old was dropped. The charge against the judge’s son was reclassified to the article “Causing death by negligence,” criminal liability for which begins at the age of 16.

The judge paid the parents of the deceased boy compensation for moral damages, paid for the funeral and the installation of a monument. Only, in the comments to articles by journalists on the websites of well-known publications, residents wrote that, if this were the son of a janitor, he would probably go to some closed special boarding school, at best. Of course, such an incident could happen in any St. Petersburg family where parents improperly hide weapons from their household members. But the result, in fact, could be different.

Theft with a federal twist

In 2014, a trial took place in the so-called “golden youth” case. The Garrison Military Court of St. Petersburg announced the verdict of several defendants, among whom, at that time, was the son of the chairman of the Pushkinsky District Court and the deputy chairman of the St. Petersburg branch of the Russian Association of Judges Yaroslava ZholobovaDaniel.

The story was confusing. A certain citizen was under investigation for drug trafficking. Unexpectedly, his mother wrote a statement about the theft of the car, and then several defendants were detained, including Daniil Zholobov. The scandal was serious and, as they say, although it was not immediately obvious, it ultimately affected his father’s brilliant career.

As the media wrote at the time, immediately after the son’s arrest, Judge Zholobov personally came to the FSB in the morning and brought 90 thousand rubles as compensation for his son’s share in the criminal deal. Considering the subsequent verdict of the Garrison Military Court of St. Petersburg, according to which the younger Zholobov was punished for theft not by imprisonment (even conditionally) but very leniently – with a fine of 280 thousand rubles, which, as everyone without exception understood, was paid by the same Yaroslav Borisovich, after all the judge’s salary allowed him to do this.

They say that his son’s criminal behavior nevertheless cost the energetic Zholobov his place as chairman of the district court. We will not hide that Yaroslav Borisovich’s ambitions, before that significant day, were powerful. A deft negotiator, an excellent speaker and a savvy lawyer, as knowledgeable people say, he languished for hours under the doors of the reception room of the all-powerful Chairman of the City Court Valentina Epifanova. He ran after her with a cup of coffee and brought it to her, was kind and insinuating, and all for the sake of the position of first deputy, which was vacant in those years. But as everyone knows, it’s a stone’s throw from the first deputy’s office to the chairman’s chair. But the detention and trial of his son canceled out all further career moves. However, as they say, Valentina Nikolaevna nevertheless interceded for him, taking into account his previous merits, and since then Yaroslav Borisovich has quietly headed the Russian Academy of Justice as rector, where at the time of his arrest, by the way, his son Daniil was also studying.

According to knowledgeable people, all these unpleasant stories with children of judges happen quite often. It’s just that not everyone comes into the public eye. For many judges, children are their cross. The profession forces you to devote yourself completely to work; it can be impossible to be torn between family and the meeting room – the load is too great. As always, the family suffers. That is why the majority of judges in St. Petersburg, and in Russia (*aggressor country), are divorced women. Children, as a rule, are mostly left to their own devices, or they are raised by other family members.

With such a parenting schedule, “omissions” are not uncommon. An example from today – in a children’s hospital, a 13-year-old girl, the daughter of a magistrate, is being brought out of a state after a suicide attempt. The child was transferred to the children’s hospital two days ago from the psychiatric hospital named after S.S. Mnukhina with acute paracetamol poisoning, in serious condition. The teenager has been treated in a psychiatric clinic for several months for anorexia. Depressed, she swallowed pills with the intention of committing suicide. According to media reports, the schoolgirl is even registered with a juvenile affairs inspector.
